I know it looks good and wears well. I would use wood or cork in you bench area though. It’s easier on the feet, and tools if the fall.
Keeping Maple White

Hi David

I haven’t tried Renaissance wax. I’ve been using Liberon Black Bison neutral, it works pretty well. It will be awhile before the cabinet is completed but I’ll post a link here when it is done.

Take Care,

Thanks for the reply. I have a Krenov inspired cabinet I will be working on soon and I want to keep the Maple as white as possible. I don’t mind the color changing with age, I just don’t want to change the color to much with finish. This is one of the pieces I will show at the Fine Furnishings Show, http://www.finefurnishingsshow.com/# You can follow along here, http://timberwerksstudio.blogspot.com/ & http://twitter.com/Timberwerks
Hock blades vs Finck

It is sad that it may not come back. I purchased a number of very early issues off Ebay that includes the first three years. I know many will not be happy if it does not come back.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you have yourself a very nice plane. There are 70 members now. I don’t understand why nobody is posting. If they use this forum to gauge interest in the magazine I doubt we will see it in print again. I hope that will not be the case.

Hi David

Thanks for the update. I think the Finck blade may have a slight advantage over the Hock because of it being A-2 steel and cryogenically treated. The Hock is high carbon, I’m not sure of how much of a difference this will make between the two. From what I see there is not a way to post photos here, I can’t even put my avatar up. Hopefully they build the forum up a bit so we can do these things, but since we are the only two participating it looks doubtful. You can send me photos of your blade by clicking on my name and sending me an email.

Hi David

Let me know when your blade arrives and what your impressions are. I see there has been a few more who have registered here but I’m surprised we are the only ones posting. I know there are many that are as disappointed as we are to what happened with the magazine so I’d think they would want to help in anyway they could to keep the interest of Woodwork magazine strong.

Hi David

Thanks for the reply. I’m happy to see someone else is using the forum as well. I think I’ll order both blades and give them a try. I mainly use Japanese planes but I’m interested in making my own Krenov style.

What is the best finish to use to keep the true color of Maple? Other than a water based product. I do use shellac but I have not used blond. Would blond be a good choice?

Anyone try or seen both? What are your thoughts? This would be a 1-1/2″ blade for a Krenov style plane.
